Cayuga Seneca Canal
Between 1905 and 1918, the original Erie Canal (see history on Erie Canal Page) was significantly changed and became the main branch of the newly formed New York State Barge Canal System. Today, the Cayuga and Seneca branch of this system connects the Erie Canal west of Syracuse, NY to the Cayuga and Seneca Lakes south of the Erie Canal. It is about 27 miles long, and is an ascending jouney from the Erie Canal.
