The Illinois Waterway North begins at the juncture of the Chicago Sanitary & Ship Canal and the Calumet Sag Channel about waterway mile 303.5. It follows the Chicago River to its forks, and then uses the North Branch to continue to mile 331.5. At about waterway mile 325.5 the the Chicago River continues to join Lake Michigan.
